Court refuses to rehear cases of two Nevada death row inmates

CARSON CITY – The Nevada Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to rehear the appeals of two killers on death row.

Robert Ybarra was convicted in 1981 of beating, raping and setting 16-year-old Nancy Griffith on fire in the desert near Ely.

Michael. H. Sonner is on death row for the fatal shooting of Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Carlos Borland in 1993 near Lovelock. Sonner, an escapee from a North Carolina jail, stopped for gas and then drove off without paying. When Borland stopped him, Sonner shot him.
