Temperatures to climb close to 110 in Las Vegas

Slightly lower temperatures to move in for the weekend, forecasters say

The burners get turned up to nearly 110 degrees this afternoon in Las Vegas, according to the National Weather Service.

A strong area of high pressure, which is bringing in the hot weather, will shift across the Rockies by Thursday as a low pressure system settles over the Pacific Northwest, the weather service said.

High afternoon temperatures will reach their peak by Thursday, then lower slightly through the weekend, with southwest breezes each afternoon and evening, forecasters said.

Highs in the Las Vegas Valley will be around 98 degrees on the west side and around 109 on the eastside, with northwest winds increasing to 15 to 25 mph this evening, they said.

At 5:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 81 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 74 degrees. The record low was 56 degrees, set in 1944.

Around the valley just before 6 a.m., temperatures were 77 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 80 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 74 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 92 degrees by 9 a.m., to 102 degrees by noon and reach a high of 110 degrees by 4 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 101 degrees and the record high was 115 degrees, set in 1954.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 109 degrees by 6 p.m., to 100 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 94 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Thursday's morning low will be 85 degrees and Thursday's high will climb to 110 degrees, they said.
