Death of tourist killed in Venetian parking garage fall ruled accidental

Updated Monday, June 20, 2011 | 2:45 p.m.

The death of a 19-year-old New Yorker who fell from the Venetian parking garage Sunday evening has been ruled accidental, Metro Police said.

The Clark County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Eli Tornheim, of Brooklyn, N.Y. He died from blunt head and chest trauma, the coroner ruled.

Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said Tornheim's family was present when the accident occurred. The victim leaned too far over the wall on the 10th floor of the parking garage while possibly taking a photo and fell to his death, she said.

Police initially responded to the call as a suicide attempt but later learned it was a tragic accident, she said.

Tornheim was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
