North Las Vegas appoints acting city attorney

North Las Vegas has appointed a new acting city attorney to replace Nicholas Vaskov, who resigned July 7 citing the “political environment.”

Jeffrey Barr, who has worked in the civil division of the North Las Vegas city attorney’s office for five years, was appointed as acting city attorney Wednesday at the City Council meeting.

“I hope to give honest and open advice to the City Council,” Barr said. “By far, the biggest challenge is the budget. I’m confident that this City Council can pull together and resolve all their issues.”

Along with a $30 million budget deficit, the city recently has been tangled in lawsuits stemming from a proposed new election in Ward 4 and contractual agreements with the North Las Vegas Police Officers Association and Police Supervisors Association.

Barr will serve as acting city attorney for an indefinite period of time.
