Wynn Resorts announced Friday that Steve Wynn purchased these four vases for a total of $12.8 million for his new resort in Macau.
Hotel mogul Steve Wynn purchased four 18th century Chinese porcelain vases at a London auction last night to grace his new resort in Macau to the tune of $12.8 million. The decorative vases, with Buddhist and Taoist emblems and embellished with 19th century gilded metal mounts, were sold by a private collector and were the priciest and certainly most notable of the 50 lots at Christie’s International’s Exceptional Sale, Bloomberg News reported.
The vases from the Jiaqing period (179-1821) purchased by Wynn Resorts Macau Ltd. are for the new Cotai Resort Hotel scheduled to open in 2015. Wynn Resorts also bought a Chinoiserie tapestry. “We are delighted to return works of this extraordinary quality to the city of Macau and the People’s Republic of China,” Roger Thomas, executive vice president of Design for Wynn Design and Development, said after the sale.
Christie’s said that Thomas was bidding at the auction while on the telephone with Wynn, who owns the Wynn and the Encore on The Strip and who wed the former Andrea Hissom here in Las Vegas in April.

how can you pay that much when people are fighting over wages @ your casino?
That's pretty pathetic in my book and is a great example of the divide between the rich and poor.
Didn't this guy just cut like 200 jobs? Classy...
Whats funny is he could have donated the money to the school district here which would have had an enormous impact...
This incident exactly whats wrong with the world.
His properties here should be boycotted. There was a time in Las Vegas (before Wynn came into the picture) when "solidarity" meant something. We need to regain some of that spirit.
What I find amusing is that they brag about his record-setting prices. He sets records because he overpays for everything!
