A report on illegal immigrants says Nevada has the largest share of illegal workers in the nation, a population that has grown despite record unemployment.
The Pew Hispanic Center's annual report published Tuesday shows roughly 10 percent of Nevada workers are illegal immigrants who are not authorized by the federal government to work.
California's 1.85 million illegal workers are the largest in the nation, but they only represent 9.7 percent of the Golden State's work force.
Nevada also has the largest share of illegal immigrants at 7.2 percent. Only 3.7 percent of people in the United States are illegal immigrants.
Nevada's population of illegal workers was 9.4 percent in 2009.
The Silver State's unemployment rate has since climbed to 14.5 percent, the highest in the nation.

Well, this information should be enough to initiate some serious enforcement of immigration law.We see many of these people at Home Depot, Lowes, and at all the landscaping suppliers in town waiting to get work.
Indeed it is admirable that they want to work, the fact remains that they are criminals if they are not in the country with proper documentation. Go through the processes, pay your dues then come back legally, we will welcome you.
It took over a year for my wife to get proper documentation and visa to come to America even though we were already married in her country.
I don't doubt that at all. And the GOP governor will protect the interests of the casinos rather than Nevadans. The casinos get cheap, undocumented labor, we the taxpayers get to pay for bi-lingual schooling, medical care at UMC, etc.

Harry Reid has stated that Nevada does not have a problem with illegal workers. He said it, that's all there is to it. This report is obviously full of hot air.

Whats new ? Maybe I wouldn't be unemployed if somehow we could get rid of all these illegals. Surely wouldn't hurt us real true Americans. In the span of 4 years, Nevada went from awesome to the worst place to be. ......No work !...and very few have money and interest to invest into there homes here. Where's the bright side of things again ?
It is time to send them back where they came from.
Nevada needs a law like Arizona.

How do they know the number of illegal workers? I ask because if they know about them, why aren't they deported?
I saw on a documentary that a Mexican citizen,if they even give food or shelter for the night to the illegal Central Americans that are passing through,they are subject to a prison sentence of 6 years.Here we give them free medical care,free education,food stamps,housing vouchers,jobs,shortcuts to citizenship, usually a free ride from the criminal justice system.And if they decide to go home,a free ride courtesy of us taxpayers.How did this country devolve to the point where citizens of other countries are put in front of the line ahead of it's own citizens needs?And this has been a swelling problem for decades.Can you tell me why they haven't figured out how to control this onslaught after all this time?Just like NAFTA and GATT,isn't it obvious to all they sure aren't looking out for our interests.And don't tell me we should welcome with open arms these downtrodden to add to our national destitution.That view,taken to a fair and logical conclusion,is a come one come all invitation for disaster to any cohesivness in our society,culturally and economically.Good luck to all those who advocate this travesty,your quality of life is swirlling down the toilet bowl along with those that realize the unsustainability of this situation,not in the long run,right now.Quit fooling yourself that we have much resorses left to hand out to any and all.Can we please start helping ourselves for once,or does our goverment consider us useful idiots who will pay for all to come,and then dutifully get to the back of the line?

This is a problem with this whole country illegal workers who spongue off of us, we educate them take care of their medical needs add them to our welfare system etc just as if they are home in Mexico except I don't think Mexico pays for their medical. This is not just a republican governor here doing this it is also our present federal government taking this to a much highter level and because this is all political no one except the governor of Arizona will do anything about it.

If they're illegal, refuse to hire them, sell to them or serve them, regardless of what country they're from.
Dallas has started a great program. They pull insurance checks like DUI checks. Without ins, the driver is arrested, gets fined, the car is impounded and can't be returned until proof of insurance, ownership and storage fees are provided. Within days of starting the program, the storage lots were full. The overwhelming majority of drivers without insurance were illegals, but all were treated identically.
When they can't support themselves they'll go elsewhere.
i like your idea Brass...but sadly no politician has the B.A.L.L.S. to take a stand and make that a law. Once again the minority wins and us regular hard working joes can't have the "American Dream" that we worked and fought ( USMC Vet ) for because illigals have taken our jobs and not paid taxes for so many years!!! just saying....

I remember when all the maids at the hotels were African Americans...that is who really has gotten screwed by all the illegals (especially true in the Southern states).

Hmmm. 10% of the work force. Throw them out and our unemployment would only be about 5%? Nice that we are paying for everything for them and also have the worst unemployment in the country.
Also stop all the printing etc... in spanish and look at the money we would save. Go to Mexico and see how far you get finding things written in English.

The next time you go to McDonald's ask yourself, do you really want to spend your money where those workers from the majority population are not seen and only the minority are seen? What kind of balance is that?

The way to solve the problem is to go after BUSINESSES THAT HIRE ILLEGALS. Eliminate the supply of jobs and they will return to Mexico, it's very simple. But the hypocrites in Washington (on both sides) talk out of both sides of their mouths on this issue. They won't pressure businesses because they know that these low wage workers, like it or not, are a vital part of our economy (the way it is currently set up). Remove illegal labor and our economy would collapse. It's not a racial issue, it is not about "those Mexicans" ... it is about us Americans and our refusal to confront the problem logically, thru the view of macro and micro economics. Again, target the businesses .. come down hard on ones that hire illegals .. eliminate the supply of jobs and these people self deport .. but then what? The companies aren't going to suddenly "do the right thing" and hire Americans, who let's be honest lack the work ethic (in most cases) and demand double/triple the wage for less effort + healtcare, sick days, vacation days, etc. In black and white as a business owner, the lure of cheap labor that demands very little is too tempting to pass up. Pressure Washington to punish these businesses if you really want this "problem" to go away -- but be preparred for the economic ripple effect (ie: price of everything to go way up).
Mandate e-Verify and a valid NV or Federal ID for employment OR non-emergency social services, and setup random DUI/Insurance checks outside the Downtown-Strip area. Wait six months, then assess the impact on tourism, unemployment, and social services costs. Dollars-to-donuts that any negative economic impact will be more than offset by reduced unemployment and social services costs.
I have worked in the medical field here in Las Vegas for over 15 years and the physician I worked at for over 5 years has retired. Never thought with my work history and resume that I would find it this hard to get a job. Most every interview I have had said they were only looking for someone bilingual. Hard enough to even get the interview. but because I don't speak Spanish I am doomed. Guess I had best get back to that damn RosettaStone.....
Mexican people can easily take the U.S. They will find little to no resistance as the white & black man has been taught to apologise. we won't even stand up to their 120 lb wives, let alone a legitimate threat like the mexican people. Remember Harry Reid worked to keep these illegal residents in Nev. and wanted to put them on a pathway to citizenship. Ask yourself, has he worked as tirelessly for you, the legal immigrant and citizen ?

We need to finish the fence, with guard tower gound sensors and the whole nine yards. Expense yes at first but the cost of us paying to raise a child is at least 250,000 x 2,962,500(assuming 25% only have one kid, that is a joke I know) = 740,625,000,000 (# of illegals = 11,850,000)
The Fence is $45 billion, versus $740 billion +.
Current population of US is approaching 312 million. This numbers doen't include extras for the parents they get like food, medical, and housing. We can't even keep Americans employed, or paying for higher education. We need to stop trying to take care of other countries until we take care of our own.
Visit the NumbersUSA and the ALIPAC websites. Join others fighting illegal immigration. We need federal E-Verify legislation to force employers to verify social security numbers.
Keep in mind, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the gaming industry will fiercely oppose this legislation.
We don't need the fence at all, really. As others have said, go after the employers and make it impossible to get work unless you are here legally or are a citizen. That by itself will stop a large part of the influx. Strip away social services and sanctuary cities and you will see people leaving in good numbers.
I would suspect that the cost of doing the above could be funded almost entirely by fines on employers.
Hey Harry, tell us again all you've done to secure the borders and enforce actions against employers??? Nevada cities and counties are going bankrupts supporting them. We WILL PAY THE FEDS TO DEPORT THEM--nonprofits can provide non-refundable bus tickets south.
WHEN will we do something? Can't we get the COUNTY COMMISSION to coordinate with ICE and deport repeat offenders at UMC? We have to get them out of here when they are young--before all the kids get free K-12 and we go bankrupt. STOP feeding them--no more Do-Gooders and non-profits providing groceries to the "neediest" without regard for CITIZENSHIP. How about the Mayor and City of Las Vegas? MACRO ECONOMICS: 15 million nationwide less a l00,000 or so who've gone back south. We just cannot pay for cradle to grave education, health care, food, shelter, law enforcement for all these people IF WE EXPECT OUR ECONOMY TO RECOVER. DEPORTATION IS CHEAPER. Vegas is a sanctuary city until we can STRAIGHTEN OUT HARRY REID. Maybe Mrs. Sandoval will run for Senate.
Fine the employers with a hefty fine that hire people that are not legal citizens of the U.S. I'm sure once they get hit with these fines, hiring of illegal's will stop.

We need a GOOD ATTORNEY if we can find one to take this back to the Supreme Court--the Wong Kim Ark decision of 1898 defied precedent allowing a child to be considered a citizen by birth--but also left intact the Constitutional Amendment that says CONGRESS SHALL REGULATE IMMIGRATION. Doesn't say other levels of government can't enforce those regulations, statutes, constitution. Over 100 years has gone by and CONGRESS IS STILL SITTING ON DEAD CENTER. We need to INSPIRE THEM TO ACT. As Senator Pearce of Arizona repeats, anchor babies are citizen's of Mommy's country, not the U.S.
What I always find fascinating about these types of discussions is the moral judgment against the illegal worker. What about the employers?????????
Employers have the ability to STOP illegal immigration with one simple commitment. All they have to do is stop hiring.
But it's business we give the breaks to and the illegal migrant who gets all the blame. It's never business' fault. For anything.

When we Americans weren't paying attention the Hispanics community got the laws changed.

(Which was supposed to stop illegals) When in fact, increased the problem exponentially. Fast-forward to the current congress and president. Pelosi and Reid want amnesty (either one form or another) for these illegals, which will most definately vote for democrats. Republicans want the cheap labor. We nee true Americans in congress that are not bought and paid for. Congress should represent the AMERICAN citizens, not big business, not global elites, not illegals. Some of the Tea-Party candidates may break the mould but dont count on it. If you truly want change you need to vote for it. Constitutionalists, Libertarians, Socialists, even Communists run every election cycle. The two-party system is a sham. Things will not change till voters realize that and vote for a 3rd Party, until then we will keep getting sell-outs who have an agenda - Destroy the Constitution, Create a North American Union and treat Americans as criminals instead of constituents. We need to give congress a REAL wake up call. Throw out ALL the Democrats and Republicans and replace them with candidates that dont "owe" big business, illegals or the global elites anything.
