Summerlin adds new homes in two neighborhoods

The Howard Hughes Corporation is continuing to build out its Las Vegas Valley properties in the Summerlin master-planned community following a split late last year from its former parent company.

With the help of other developers, the Las Vegas-based company is expanding two neighborhoods in the southern and western regions of Summerlin. The Howard Hughes Corporation separated from Chicago-based General Growth Properties, Inc., as part of General Growth’s bankruptcy reorganization.

In the custom home village of The Ridges in Summerlin South, 23 new custom homes are under construction and another 20 homes are undergoing design review and are expected to break ground later this year, company officials announced Saturday.

“The number of custom homes now under construction in The Ridges speaks volumes about growing economic confidence,” Summerlin President Kevin Orrock said in a statement.

More than 300 custom home sites have been sold in The Ridges, a 793-acre, gated community featuring a golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus and a private fitness and health club for The Ridges residents.

Home sites in The Ridges range in size from one-quarter acre to one acre and are priced between the high $200,000s to more than $1 million.

In nearby The Paseos village in Summerlin West, two developers – Toll Brothers and Woodside Homes – closed escrow last week on 34 lots to complete the Barcelona neighborhood. The model homes are scheduled to be complete later this year, company officials said.

The Paseos is a 375-acre community made up of single- and multi-family homes and a 12.5-acre community park.

Summerlin includes about 22,500 acres with about 7,500 acres still remaining for development. Nearly 100,000 residents live in Summerlin, which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year.
