KSNV coverage of missing boy found unharmed in North Las Vegas, Jan. 22, 2011.
A missing 9-year-old boy was found safe Saturday at a friend’s house in North Las Vegas.
Police said the boy spent the night with the friend and was returned home at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Mattew Gordon’s mother told police she last saw her son about 5 p.m. Friday at their apartment in the 700 block of East Nelson Avenue, which is near Interstate 15 and Carey Avenue.
Mattew was going outside to play and was supposed to return at 8 p.m., his mother told police. She called 911 about midnight to report him missing, police said.
Searchers tried checking the friend’s house overnight, but no one answered the door, North Las Vegas Police Sgt. Tim Bedwell said.
The boy and his friend apparently convinced the friend’s mother that Mattew had permission to spend the night, Bedwell said.
Police did not expect anyone to face charges in this case.

She reported a nine year old missing at midnight when she last saw him at 5PM?
Who lets a 9 yr old, ADHD child, out to play for 3 hours without supervision ? From 5-9pm it is dark outside. Either there is missing info in this story or there is something seriously wrong with parents today. Hope they find him and give his mother some parenting classes. I criticize because I've been there. I was a single mom at age 21 with a 2 yr old. Never would I have let my ADHD son outside alone without supervision at that young age. He's a responsible adult now, and with parenting, your responsibility to your children ends only when you die.
This does seem odd if this child is ADHD why would you wait till midnight. When I was raising my children they were in the house by dark,is there some detail missing from this story.
I'm curious, when was this boy suppose to eat dinner. Something doesn't sound right. Last saw him at 5:00pm but he wasn't suppose to return at 8:00pm and the mother called at 12:00am. Where was this boy going that he was suppose return at 8:00pm? This is a clear case of child neglect. The mother had no idea of where the boy was going but he was to return at 8:00pm, she didn't call till 12:00am to report her child missing and to top it off he has ADHD. There is only two possibilities of what happen to this child and the mother knows both.
wonder what she was doing to not realize for 4 hours he wasnt home yet????
Sandy 99: get a grip. Everyone lets their 0 year olds out to play, and you make it sound like ADHD is some life threatening disease. My heart goes out to the parent that is missing her child. I pray they find him alive.
I am very relieved to know the boy was found safe at a friend's house. However, where is the responsibility on the other parent's part ? Who is raising the children these days ? My son had to phone in where he was, and I had to speak with the parent and/or know the other parent where he was staying. Additionally, if another child was at my house, I asked that child for his parent's number and phoned them to be sure the other parent knew their son was at my place. Responsibility, accountability, integrity and honor. Where has it gone ? I'm 45 and a mother, and a grandma. Parents, PLEASE teach your children and ready them for this world. What you put into it, you will get back, in spades.
Anyone surprised about the parenting? You shoudn't be. Welcome to Las Vegas.
