Two of the UNLV football team’s top returning players have been suspended indefinitely and won’t participate in spring practice, the school announced Wednesday.

Wide receiver Michael Johnson and defensive back Mike Clausen have been suspended for violating unspecified team rules, a press release states. Coach Bobby Hauck won’t be commenting on the issue.

Johnson, a rising senior, was one of UNLV’s most productive offensive players last fall, leading the team with 51 receptions. He had 571 yards receiving and five touchdowns.

Also a rising senior, Clausen had 31 tackles, one interception and a fumble return for a touchdown last year. He opened the year as the team’s quarterback before being moved to defense.

Hauck, who was hired last December, has held a no-nonsense stance in disciplining players. This fall, wide receiver Phillip Payne was suspended two games for comments he made about the program on Twitter.

Spring practice begins Feb. 28.
