Governor steers clear of debate over Legislature’s $32,000 gym

CARSON CITY — Gov. Brian Sandoval is steering clear of commenting on Assembly Speaker John Oceguera installing exercise equipment in the Legislative building at taxpayer expense.

“That’s his decision,” Sandoval said.

Two treadmills, two exercise bikes and two StairMasters were delivered last week to the Legislature and installed on the third floor. The cost was $32,000.

Sandoval said he respects Oceguera’s discretion in the purchase.

Officials say there was vacant space on the third floor of the Legislature, and the units will be available to lawmakers and staff.

Sandoval also said security for him and his family was increased after a shooting on Saturday in Arizona in which U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was wounded and six people killed.

But security has returned to normal after authorities concluded nobody besides the alleged gunman was involved in the shooting.

  1. On the 3rd floor? There are plenty of stairs, why do they PrimmaDonas need Stairmaster machines? Use the stairs for goodness sakes.

  2. Judy: What? Use ACTUAL stairs? Actually take a walk?

It's not really working out unless you get all dressed up in your workout clothes, tell everyone how you're going to go work out, and then go the health club/workout room and use one of the expensive machines.
