Former Assemblywoman Sharron Angle, made famous in her unsuccessful bid to unseat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, said late last night she will not seek appointment to retiring Sen. Bill Raggio’s seat.

Angle failed in an effort to oust Raggio in the 2008 Republican primary. But she said she is not interested in participating in the “good ole’ boy politics” of the appointment process.

She accused Raggio of deliberately timing his retirement to cut voters out of the process.

“I warned voters in 2008 that Sen. Raggio would vote to increase taxes again and then resign in the middle of his term to pave the way for an appointment rather than allowing the voters to elect his replacement,” she said in the statement. “It’s a premeditated endeavor to keep the ‘good old boy’ politics in play that the majority of Americans rallied against in the recent elections.”

Raggio, who is suffering from an inoperable ruptured Achilles tendon, announced his retirement last week.

Angle said she has already made “statewide and nationwide” commitments that would prevent her from seeking Raggio’s seat.

She urged her supporters to call on Washoe County commissioners to appointed a senator who would vote against tax increases.
