A motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run accident early Saturday morning in Las Vegas, according to Metro Police.

The 21-year-old Las Vegas man's identity was withheld by police pending notification of relatives. He was driving a 2006 Suzuki GSX-R600 at 12:26 a.m. on Charleston Boulevard, about 140 feet east of Broadalbin Drive, when the accident occurred, police said.

A witness statement and evidence at the scene indicate the motorcyclist and an unknown dark pickup truck were both traveling west on Charleston, from Lamb Boulevard, at a high rate of speed, police said.

The motorcycle was traveling in the right travel lane and the pickup in the left travel lane when the pickup suddenly moved into the right lane, causing the motorcyclist to lose control, police said.

The motorcycle continued going west, straddling the north sidewalk and gutter, before falling over onto its side and striking a light pole, police said.

The motorcyclist was ejected and came to rest in the right travel lane, police said.

The motorcycle continued going west on its side before coming to rest in the left travel lane of west Charleston, officers said.

The unknown pickup truck fled the scene, going west on Charleston, police said.
