A Metro Police officer waded through a muddy dry lake bed near Primm to rescue two adults and two children who became stranded after their vehicle got stuck Sunday afternoon.

A helicopter from Metro's Search and Rescue Unit tried to rescue the group but was hindered by power lines in the area, so an officer wore special boots to reach those who were stranded, Lt. Ted Snodgrass said.

The group included a man, woman, 3-year-old child and a baby, he said. Two others escaped safely on their own.

Snodgrass said police received a call at 3:15 p.m. Sunday from the group after their two vehicles got stuck in mud near railroad tracks about a mile from Primm.

It's unclear what the group was doing in the area, Snodgrass said. The police helicopter left North Las Vegas at 4:15 p.m. to assist in the operation.

Police had said the victims might have hypothermia-related issues, but other information about their conditions wasn't available Sunday night.

"It doesn't look like it's life-threatening," Snodgrass said, "but we're lucky to have the resources to get them out."
