The Vdara hotel-condo tower at CityCenter is closing its only restaurant in light of a small grocery store opening at the property.

The Market Café Vdara will open March 1 with groceries, a coffee bar and snacks for guests and condo owners at the property. The brightly colored Silk Road restaurant also in the Vdara lobby, which serves breakfast and lunch, will close March 8.

“Business demands just haven’t been there to support the restaurant at this time,” MGM Resorts International spokeswoman Jenn Michaels said.

Michaels said the restaurant’s 27 employees will have the opportunity to shift either to Vdara’s pool, the Market Café Vdara or other positions open within the company.

The company said there are no immediate plans to fill the Silk Road space.
