Nevada Assembly hires cook to make lunches for members

CARSON CITY – The Nevada Assembly is hiring a cook at the government's expense to make lunches for its members.

Lorne Malkiewich, director of the Legislative Counsel Bureau, says Linda Marrone was named an assistant sergeant at arms with the sole duty of preparing lunch. Marrone was a chef at a restaurant in Carson City before retiring.

Malkiewich said each lawmaker chips in to pay for the food. “It is cheaper than going out,” he said. This has been done several sessions in the past.

The lawmakers contribute about $2 a day for the food.
