Mayoral race

Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani announced this morning she will run for Las Vegas mayor.

She said she plans to file her candidate paperwork Thursday morning at City Hall.

At a breakfast among supporters, Giunchigliani outlined a four-point plan for Las Vegas that includes rebuilding neighborhoods; attracting new businesses; making government more efficient; and improving schools.

"Some people may say it's not the mayor's job to fix schools," Giunchigliani said. "They're right. It's everybody's job."

Giunchigliani announced her candidacy at a Hispanics in Politics meeting in downtown Las Vegas.

She chose the setting, she said, because she first contemplated running for mayor at the group's last meeting.

"Why not come back home where the idea was born?" she said.

Carolyn Goodman, wife of term-limited Mayor Oscar Goodman, also announced today that she will enter the mayoral race.
