Fewer than 1,000 tickets remain for the May 7 WBO welterweight championship fight between Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand, according to promotion company Top Rank.

During a three-hour stretch Monday when tickets first went on sale, an estimated 16,000 were sold.

“Incredible. Simply incredible,” Top Rank CEO Bob Arum said in a statement. “I have never promoted a fight that has sold so many tickets so quickly. Manny Pacquiao never ceases to amaze the world with his achievements. The excitement he generated today with the initial ticket sales makes it feel like fight week already.”

Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38 KOs), who is widely considered one of the biggest draws in boxing, hasn’t fought in Las Vegas since November 2009. His last two bouts — Nov. 13, 2010, versus Antonio Margarito and March 13, 2010, against Joshua Clottey — were at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Those fights took significant revenue from Las Vegas, everything from hotel rooms to gaming.

Remaining tickets are available for $1,000, $750 and $300, and are limited to 10 tickets per person.

Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs) is a former three-division champion.

UFC 158
Nick Diaz fails to back up years worth of talk

UFC 158 A welterweight title fight that felt incredibly different wound up remarkably the same. Georges St. Pierre manhandled nemesis Nick Diaz with his wrestling. St. Pierre won every round on every judges' scorecard in Montreal for his sixth straight unanimous-decision victory. Diaz had preached his superiority over St. Pierre for years, but when he finally got his chance, he looked as helpless as all the other challengers to the 170-pound division's throne in the last six years. St. Pierre's consistency continued to amaze. Now it's on to Johny Hendricks, who defeated Carlos Condit in the evening's co-main event. Could he be the one to finally threaten St. Pierre?
