Crash

U.S. Highway 95 was shut down Tuesday night after a woman, who has been arrested for DUI, drove her car into a 52-year-old man standing outside his van, which had stalled near Cheyenne Avenue, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

“We had the entire 95 shut down with vehicles exiting at Cheyenne,” Trooper Loy Hixson said.

The man was putting gasoline into his Dodge van around 8:52 p.m. when a four-door Cadillac driven by a 65-year-old Las Vegas woman hit both him and the van, Hixson said.

The man was transported to University Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition, Hixson said. The man is expected to survive his injuries, Hixon said.

Two women were inside the man's Dodge van at the time of the crash but were uninjured, the trooper said.

The driver of the Cadillac failed a field sobriety test and was arrested for DUI, Hixson said.

Authorities closed U.S. 95's travel lanes for about an hour to investigate the scene, he said. All lanes had been reopened by late Tuesday night.
