Letter to the editor:

Respect missing in GOP campaign

I watched with great amusement the seven Republican candidates taking shots at President Obama during their debate last week on Fox.

I realize that each needed to belittle the president as best they could in order to get the audience of diehard conservatives to applaud them. One thing bugged me, though: During the entire debate, I didn’t hear the candidates or the Fox News panel refer to Barack Obama as president.

I realize that the president’s policies have been rated either good or very bad, but at least show the respect the man deserves. Address him by his title, not “Barack Obama” or just plain “Obama.” How would the candidates like to be called only by their last names without a title in front of it?

This will be a great training ground for the young in America. Call your parents by their first names, not Mom or Dad. Call your teachers by their last names only, not using Mr. or Mrs. If you are in the military, call your superiors by their last names, not Sir or by their ranks.

If anyone wants a lesson in how to exhibit a lack of respect in this country, let them listen to those who are campaigning to run it.
