UNLV vs. UCSB

Local UNLV fans cheer during their game against UC Santa Barbara Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at The Thunderdome in Santa Barbara. UNLV won the game, 94-88, in double overtime.

UNLV basketball fans took to message boards and social media Wednesday to voice their displeasure that the Rebels’ thrilling 94-88 double overtime victory at UC Santa Barbara wasn’t televised in Southern Nevada.

They won’t have the same complaint Sunday when the Rebels play at Wichita State.

The university finalized arrangements Thursday afternoon to have the game televised on Cox Cable Channel 96, said D.J. Allen, UNLV’s Sr. associate athletic director. The game will air live at 1 p.m. It will be shown only on Cox.

The broadcasters will be from Wichita State, with the game already scheduled to air on a Cox channel in Wichita. That made it easier for UNLV officials to facilitate a deal.

Several on Wednesday paid $10 to watch a feed of the game through the Big West Conference website, while several followed the game on radio or through Twitter updates from reporters in attendance.

UNLV won for the eighth consecutive time to open the season with more and more fans jumping on the bandwagon following each victory. Now, old and new fans alike can take in Sunday’s game.
