Of 100 cities, Las Vegas was ranked the 10th saddest in America recently, but there is one thing to smile about: Reno ranked ninth.
According to a ranking from Men’s Health Magazine, Las Vegas made the top 10 list of saddest cities. Rankings were based on suicide and unemployment rates, along with percentages of households that use antidepressants and the number of people who reported feelings of sadness all or most of the time.
St. Petersburg, Fla., was named the saddest, with Detroit; Memphis, Tenn.; Tampa, Fla.; and Louisville, Ky., rounding out the top five saddest, respectively.
But possibly the saddest aspect of the list was the grades that were awarded. Las Vegas got an F.
Los Angeles was awarded a D+, New York got a C- and Salt Lake City received a B-.
Honolulu, ranked first on the list of "Blues-proof Towns," was the only city to receive an A+. Also receiving high marks were Boston; St. Paul, Minn.; and Madison, Wis.
Here’s the complete list. menshealth.com/best-life/frown-towns.

Though there was nothing to be happy about in Las Vegas, if don't think things are that sad. What makes me sad about Las Vegas, we have a senate majority leader, Harry Reid who does little for Nevada as a whole, and Shelly Berkeley who is a follower and her husband is taking advantage of healthcare reform. I feel Las Vegas and Nevada would be a happier place. Of course Hawaii is the happiest place to be, its so laid back and relaxing, everything moves at a calm pace. If I could afford to live there, that is the place I prefer to be, but Las Vegas is just as nice, sunny, nice airport and inexpensive place to live.
These top lists are a great way for websites to attract ad revenue. It just works, people love top lists. To bad most of them, like this one, are total BS.
Sad, who could be sad with the great Obama, greatest president ever, he was a community organizer, 4 more years for our god, I meant hero!
Why do you people have to bring politics into this??? It is more than just "politics". And if you ARE going to blame politicians, start with George W.
Maui has the wowwie. It's clearly not a fair comparison.
Boston has the beans, some tea and big sailboats...and jobs, culture, technology, schools, health care, etc. It's not a fair comparison.
And what does Las Vegas have to offer???
answer: A bunch a wasted drunks, bunch a dried out over-pumped hookers with more tattoos and pierced things than retired merchant marines, and a few extremely wealthy folks who own a few casinos and all the lives of those who come and go and come back to lose more.
cheap food, if ya saved enough for a burger for the road
ah, just kiddin'. It's like everything else with a beauty all her own. Shameful, sinful, sun-drenched, salty and sooo naughty, but a beauty all its own.
Excellent chefs, world-class shows, distinctive architecture - even if sometimes they're too flimsy to OPEN!
