public safety:

3 people injured in 7-vehicle chain-reaction crash

A multiple-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon on North Jones Boulevard sent three people to the hospital with minor injuries, Metro Police said.

The crash happened about 4:50 p.m. on Jones at West Washington Avenue when a vehicle crashed into another vehicle stopped in traffic, causing a chain reaction involving seven vehicles, police said.

The driver who ran into the line of vehicles stopped at a red light faces counts including driving under the influence and following too close, police said.

Nine people were involved in the crash, and three were transported to University Medical Center, police said. The driver of the vehicle that triggered the crash, a man in his early 40s, was among those transported to the hospital, police said.
