Coroner rules weekend death of 1-year-old girl a homicide

Police investigating infant's death

Metro Police are investigating the death of a 1-year-old girl early Saturday morning after she was brought to UMC with extensive injuries.

The death of a 1-year-old girl taken to University Medical Center on Friday night with extensive injuries has been ruled a homicide by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

Dyon Johnson was taken to the hospital shortly before midnight by a caregiver and died Saturday morning from blunt head trauma and child abuse, a spokeswoman with the coroner's office said Monday.

The child had been in the custody of the caregiver, but there were multiple people at the caregiver's residence around the time the injuries occurred, Metro Police said. Detectives are investigating who is responsible for the girl's injuries.

Anyone with information is being asked to call Metro's homicide section at (702) 828-3521 or, to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or visit crimestoppersofnv.com.
