Family, dogs escape burning home

Updated Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011 | 8:11 p.m.

An adult, five children and two dogs escaped their burning home without injury Tuesday afternoon on John Glenn Circle near Charleston Boulevard and Buffalo Drive. Damage was estimated at $25,000.

Firefighters arrived at the house at 4:45 p.m. and found flames coming from the windows of a front room, said Tim Szymanski, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue's public information officer.

Szymanski said the fire was located in the family room, a converted garage attached to the front of the house.

Fire damage was confined to that room, and the rest of the house sustained light to moderate smoke damage, officials said. The cause was not determined, but the blaze started on or near a couch and computer table, Szymanski said.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family. One adult was away from the home at the time of the fire.
