State insurance commissioner Brett J. Barratt resigns

Brett J. Barratt, who has been state insurance commissioner for slightly over one year, has quit effective Aug. 12.

Barratt has worked in the agency since 2005 and cited personal reasons for his leaving to move out of Nevada. He was appointed in July 2010 to head the agency that regulates the $12 billion insurance business.

Terry Johnson, director of the state Business & Industry Department, said chief counsel Amy Parks will be acting insurance commissioner.

Johnson also said state Labor Commissioner Michael Tanchek has resigned to join the legal team in the state Division of Industrial Relations. Larry Dixon, the chief investigator, will become acting labor commissioner.
