Five thoughts from ‘Broadway Bares’

Sparkles, pasties and two guys called Golden Showers

Golden Showers get into it for the second annual Broadway Bares: Las Vegas at Planet Hollywood, April 24, 2011.

1. The show kicks off with the Peepshow crew. They're hot—though, when your job is to look super sexy while dancing around in your skivvies, a little of the naughtiness of Jerry Mitchell's out-of-character, New York-import AIDS benefit is lost.

2. The ladies of The Lion King sans masks and family-friendly choreography? Now we're talking. They look a little extra excited to show off their six-packs. (Note to self: Must hit the gym.) "Walt Disney just pushed up a daisy," says Zumanity's Mistress of Sensuality, Edie. "Yea, I just made the first penis joke of the night."

3. The Onyx crew includes a pair of well-muscled men painted totally gold. They look like Oscar statuettes ... until they start sticking their faces into each other's crotches very deliberately. After the first time, we're in on the joke, and it only gets funnier. By the time they take a stoic bow, they've stolen the show. Standing O for Golden Showers!

4. Prince's "Jack U Off" and Curtis Jones' "Coffee Pot (It's time for the percolator)" in one number. Brilliant.

5. As the performers line the stage and audience members stick folded bills into their unmentionables, I'm already dreaming of next year and a collaboration between Carrot Top and the dancers of Nevada Ballet Theatre. What a great way to harness the city's considerable assets. Nothing like some bra-flinging fun on Easter Sunday.
