LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Sandoval’s choice to appoint Heller will cost Nevada

On Wednesday, Gov. Brian Sandoval chose Rep. Dean Heller to be the next U.S. senator from Nevada.

If the governor had named an interim senator to be in place just until the next election, there would have been no cost to the state. Instead, he chose Heller to help him with his senatorial election, thereby obligating us to have a special election to replace Heller in the House of Representatives.

We’re supposed to believe that Gov. Sandoval wants to fix the budget in Nevada. He’s seeking to cut jobs, education, wages and spending, but he’s forcing Nevadans to pay for a special election. Since we are in such a tight spot with the budget, and since the choice of Heller right now will benefit only the Republican Party, the Republican Party should pay for the special election.
