Sunday night house fire near downtown Las Vegas ruled arson

Map

Fire officials ruled arson as the cause of a Sunday night fire that gutted a vacant home north of downtown Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue crews responded at 11:21 p.m. to the blaze at 1809 Linden Ave., near Bruce Street and Bonanza Road.

Firefighters arrived to see heavy flames coming from the one-story, concrete block house, but they were able to bring the fire under control within 10 minutes, officials said.

The fire caused $65,000 in damage, but no neighboring homes were affected, authorities said.

Neighbors told fire investigators that a homeless person had been staying at the home, which had been vacant for more than eight months, officials said.

Investigators believe someone intentionally created a fire outside the house, which then extended inside. The investigation is ongoing.
