Taxicab Authority administrator named

CARSON CITY — A veteran government worker has been named administrator of the state’s Taxicab Authority in Clark County to succeed Gordon Walker, who resigned.

Terry Johnson, director of the state Department of Business and Industry, said Thursday he has selected Charles D. Harvey.

Harvey was head of the state office that regulated the receipt and spending of federal stimulus funds for former Gov. Jim Gibbons. He was later transferred to be executive director of the Nevada Office of Veteran Services.

He will oversee some 900 cab drivers operating a fleet of about 3,000 vehicles.

Harvey has also served as assistant Clark County Recorder and has worked with the U.S. Geological Survey and was a member of the U.S. Air Force.

There was a bill introduced in this Legislature to transfer the taxicab authority to Clark County. But the measure died in the Senate Transportation Committee.
