A fire at a Las Vegas apartment complex this morning gutted one unit and caused $25,000 in damage, officials said.

Las Vegas and Fire Rescue crews responded shortly after 11:30 a.m. to the Ashford Manor Apartments, 2320 Tucumcari Drive, after receiving multiple calls about the blaze. The apartments are located at the intersection of Smoke Ranch Drive and Jones Boulevard.

Fire department spokesman Tim Szymanski said heavy smoke and flames were coming from one of the eight units in the two-story building when firefighters arrived. Crews extinguished the fire within a few minutes, he said.

The blaze occurred while a woman was apparently moving in to the unit, but the cause hasn't been determined, Szymanski said.

One bystander who used a fire extinguisher suffered smoke inhalation, Szymanski said. No one else was injured.

The fire, which remains under investigation, displaced two adults and a baby.
