The Clark County Coroner's Office has identified a woman who died Thursday in a multiple-vehicle accident after she apparently accelerated into oncoming traffic instead of placing the car in park.

Rosemary Cook, 60, a North Las Vegas resident, died from multiple blunt force injuries to the head and neck suffered during the accident, the coroner said.

Police spokeswoman Chrissie Coon said the accident happened shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Craig Road and Ferrell Street.

The woman was driving a white Chevrolet Cavalier with her teenage son as a passenger when she pulled over on the northbound side of Farrell Street. She intended to switch positions with her son, who was learning how to drive, police said.

Cook, however, accidentally accelerated instead of putting the car in park and drove into the eastbound lanes of Craig Road, Coon said.

An oncoming black Ford Fusion struck and spun the Cavalier, which ejected Cook because her passenger door was partially open, Coon said.

A gray Chevrolet Impala then struck the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. No other injuries were reported.
