Highs to hit 80s today, 90s on Sunday in Las Vegas Valley

Temperatures for the weekend running about 10 to 15 degrees above normal

Find some sunscreen and head for the pool — a warm weekend is on the way for the Las Vegas Valley.

Skies will be mostly sunny and high afternoon temperatures will climb into the upper 80s today and into the low 90s Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

However, temperatures will fall several degrees on Monday as a storm system drops south into the area, the weather service said.

The storm system will bring a chance for showers to mainly the southern Sierra and the southern Great Basin, along with gusty winds to much of the area, forecasters said.

At 4:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 60 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 54 degrees. The record low was 39 degrees, set in 1998, 1976 and 1967.

Around the valley just before 5 a.m., temperatures were 62 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 57 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 57 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 69 degrees by 9 a.m., to 81 degrees by noon and reach a high of 88 degrees by 4 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 78 degrees and the record high was 95 degrees, set in 1989, 1984 and 1962.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 84 degrees by 7 p.m., to 80 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 75 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Sunday's morning low will be 68 degrees and Sunday's high will climb to 94 degrees, they said.
