A picture of Mayor Oscar Goodman as an iconic Western film hero hangs on the wall outside his downtown Las Vegas office on Monday, April 27, 2009.

As the time grows closer for the curtain to close on Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman's 12 years in office, other offers are coming up that could keep him in the spotlight — including one in Hollywood.

The mayor hinted as much Thursday during his weekly news conference with the media at City Hall, saying he might consider playing the role of an executive film producer.

"I was out of town on Friday, having discussions about the rest of my life," the mayor said as he was giving his regular rundown of events he had been attending since his last press conference.

That prompted questions about what he plans to do once his third four-year term in office ends in June.

He will be replaced by either his wife, Carolyn Goodman, or Clark County Commissioner Chris Guinchigliani, who are running against each other in the June 2 municipal election.

Mayor Goodman has indicated he's finished with elective politics — he was term-limited as mayor and decided not to run for governor last year. And he has indicated no interest in running for a congressional seat.

Goodman has said he was interested in resuming a law practice and also opening up a "speakeasy" tavern near the new Mob Museum being developed at the former federal courthouse/post office near city hall. At times in the last few months, he also mentioned he had been approached about the possibility of starring in a TV reality show.

At first, the mayor jokingly acted as if he was upset with the question about where he went last Friday, then smiled, saying "I'm exploring what's happening with the rest of my life. And it's all good."

Asked specifically where he went on Friday, Goodman said "Hollywood."

Does that mean he's looking at appearing in another cameo in a movie, such as he has done in the 1995 Martin Scorsese film "Casino," where he played himself as a mob lawyer?

"We don't know, we don't know," Goodman said.

Becoming a movie producer?

"Maybe. We were talking about that, too," Goodman said. "As a matter of fact, there's a phone call that's waiting for me up there about this potential of being an executive producer."

Goodman promised to reveal what he's up to next in the second reel of his life, "as soon as I sign the bottom line."
