LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Bureaucrats can produce with smaller budgets

As the Nevada Legislature passes its halfway point, the Democrats have filled our media with an endless stream of soon-to-be-injured citizens.

Gov. Brian Sandoval and Republicans in the Legislature are evidently unmoved and are holding fast to their certainty that the funds available without a tax increase will suffice.

In my experience, bureaucrats would rather die than admit that they could accomplish their duties with less funding than currently available.

What incentive could there possibly be for bureaucrats to tell the Legislature that their work product could be produced for 90 percent of their current budget? Has that ever happened?

If I am correct, and bureaucrats generally favor budget increases, then the only way to see what they can actually do with less is to give them a smaller budget.

In private enterprise, when costs go up, the owner generally figures out how to make a profit. I think that if pressed, the bureaucrats will also find a way to succeed.
