Does “Hussong” sound like an Asian name to you? Apparently it did to enough customers of the restaurant inside the Shoppes at Mandalay Place that the cantina-taqueria took notice and is trying to combat misinformation with “Hussong’s—It’s Not Chinese” Wednesdays, which offers Dos Equis sake bombs, “tushi” and forced lessons on the joint’s more than 100-year history in Baja. Personally, I don’t see the humor in a Mexican restaurant offering Japanese fusion dishes on a night meant to reinforce the fact they’re not Chinese. Oh, and the stereotypical cartoon Chinaman on the official flyer? That’s not Chinese, either. That’s ignorance, Hussong’s.
Hussong's Cantina Thanks to Hussong's Cantina, you don't need a passport to visit Mexico. Occupying a 3,700-square-foot space in Mandalay Place, Hussong's Cantina brings Baja to Vegas with casual dining, signature cocktails and plenty of tequila. Hussong's original location in Ensenada, Mexico, fabled to be the originator of the margarita, has been a landmark since 1892 (which makes it older than Las Vegas!) and served everyone from Marilyn Monroe to ambassadors to surf bums. The restaurant at the Shoppes at Madalay Bay is the first U.S. outpost, featuring the Original Margarita and the sing-along rock 'n' roll Mariachi band.
