Warmer weather returns to Las Vegas

Gusty winds expected to move into the valley on Wednesday, forecasters say

You won't need a jacket this afternoon — mostly sunny skies and temperatures climbing into the low 80s are heading to Las Vegas.

A series of weak storms will push through the region today through Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service.

A few showers and thunderstorms may be seen over east central Nevada, while gusty winds can be expected for the Las Vegas Valley Wednesday, the weather service said.

After those systems leave by Thursday, high pressure will develop for the weekend, bringing mild weather, with temperatures climbing well above normal into the mid to upper 80s, forecasters said.

At 3:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 56 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 53 degrees. The record low was 32 degrees, set in 1967.

Around the valley just before 4 a.m., temperatures were 55 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 51 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 51 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 59 degrees by 9 a.m., to 71 degrees by noon and reach a high of 81 degrees by 4 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 77 degrees and the record high was 91 degrees, set in 1990.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 79 degrees by 6 p.m., to 69 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 63 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Wednesday's morning low will be 57 degrees and Wednesday's high will climb to 77 degrees, they said.
