Sharron Angle wants to cut trillions from federal budget, describes Obama as an enemy of liberty

Angle McCain Campaign Rally

Sam Morris

Sharron Angle speaks at a campaign rally Oct. 29, 2010, at the Orleans during her Senate run.

The thought of a budget impasse forcing a government shutdown? Nothing to worry about. Operating on purely essential personnel during the shutdown just proves the federal government is bloated.

Republicans only want to cut $60 billion from the budget? Wait until the true conservatives put out their proposal and you’ll see a way to cut “trillions” from federal spending.

And if you want to know who the true “domestic enemy” in America is, one need only look to the White House.

Yes, Sharron Angle is back on the campaign trail, running for Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District.

In a lengthy interview taped today for To the Point, Angle said no one should fear a government shutdown if a budget deal can’t be reached and added that the Republicans’ bargaining position is just pennies on the dollar of what she would like to see cut.

“I’ve been through government shutdowns and when they shut down in ’95 they shut down all but the essential employees,” she said. “I’m not sure why we are so frightened when it comes to a shut down when we know there are agencies and employees who are non-essential.”

Asked if she backed Republicans’ proposal to cut $61 billion from the budget, Angle smiled.

“I think that we are going to be seeing a proposal come out from the congressional conservatives for trillions,” she said.

Angle also sought to explain a fundraising email she penned last week for a conservative veterans group that likened elected officials to al-Qaeda and other “radical groups” that threaten American liberty.

“We were talking about veterans. Veterans understand who the enemy is,” Angle said. “They are keenly aware of the problems that are going on in our own country.”

So who is the enemy?

“Certainly we’ve seen some leadership that has embraced things that we as Americans are really shocked at seeing and I think that comes directly from the leadership of the president,” she answered.

The entire 30-minute interview airs at 6:30 p.m. Saturday on Channel 3 in Las Vegas and a Channel 4 in Reno.
