Super Six Tournament back on track for Nov. 27

The Super Six World Boxing Classic has rescheduled two of its third round bouts for Nov. 27.

Tournament leader Andre Ward (22-0, 13 KO) will face Andre Dirrell (19-1, 13 KO) for the WBA and WBC titles at a site to be determined.

The same day, Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KO) and Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO) are set to meet in Helsinki.

The two fights were supposed to take place Oct. 2, but were postponed when Froch suffered a back injury in camp and negotiations between Ward and Dirrell stalled.

It was just one of several road bumps the tournament has endured since its 2009 start.

One member of the original six, Jermain Taylor, withdrew from the competition following a first-round knockout loss to Abraham. Last month, Mikkel Kessler pulled out of the competition because an eye injury.

In a statement released Friday, Showtime general manager Ken Hershman acknowledged the difficulties but added the tournament still should finish on schedule.

"We have asked these fighters to challenge themselves against the best in the world," Hershman said. "Injuries and delays are inevitable.

"We are still on pace to comoplete the tournament in 2011, at which time we will have delivered to boxing fans around the world a number of the most competing matches in the sport.

The tournament's sixth member, Allan Green, is currently without an opponent because Kessler's injury. A decision on his next fight should be made soon, according to Showtime officials.
