The Vanguard Lounge

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman and Councilman Ricki Barlow are set to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new downtown bar-lounge.

The Vanguard Lounge, located at 516 Fremont St., will host the ceremony on Sept. 29 to celebrate its opening. The Vanguard is the first downtown bar with outdoor seating in the front and speakers broadcasting music from the disc jockeys inside, according to its owners, Andrew and Jennifer Wheatley.

“It’s nothing you’ve ever seen in Vegas,” Jennifer Wheatley said. “No one else is doing what we’re doing.”

The Vanguard was granted a cigarette and tavern limited business license in mid-September. The Wheatleys, with a combined 30 years in the industry, said they hope the “chill vibe” and the “modern industrial décor” of the lounge will entice a variety of customers.

“We decided to stop working for other people and start doing what we know best,” said Jennifer Wheatley, who previously worked at the Green Valley Ranch and the Artisan.

The lounge will host a different DJ each night between Thursday and Sunday. The DJs will be geared to different demographics, she said. For example, since people working in the cosmetology industry are off on Sundays, the Vanguard will have a DJ catering music to that group, she said.
