LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Don’t be so impatient with Obama

A member of the crack Washington, D.C., press corps asked a brilliant question during President Barack Obama’s press conference Friday. The question, according to a White House transcript, went as follows:

“Mr. President, you were talking about some of the al-Qaida leaders that you have captured. One that you have not is Osama bin Laden. Tomorrow is going to be nine years since he was the mastermind of 3,000 Americans being killed. And what you said — obviously, the last administration had seven years and couldn’t do it. But what you said as president-elect to CBS is, ‘I think capturing or killing bin Laden is a critical aspect of stamping out al-Qaida. He is not just a symbol. He is also the operational leader of an organization planning attacks against the U.S.’

“Do you still believe it’s a critical part of your policy to capture or kill him? And do you think — isn’t it a failure of your administration that here it’s almost two years in — you campaigned saying you were going to run a smarter war on terror than the Bush administration. You haven’t captured him and you don’t seem to know where he is.”

Hello.

Does the reporter believe the Obama administration can do in less than two years what the Republicans couldn’t do in more than seven years?

The greater tragedy is that Tea Party activists and most Republicans expect President Obama to fix everything in less than two years that it took the previous administration eight years to mess up. And they want us to re-elect those incompetents so they can do it again. Unbelievable.

  1. Anybody that thinks the response to this type of economic situation is more government is truly cracked.

  2. Enjoyed your long post, WillieTanner.

And judging from the backlash from the ring wingnut commenters that tripped all over each other to respond, it was dead on.

It's easy to look for bad things about someone. And, in this current political climate, if you can't find something bad, just make up something, plenty of people around who are paid to stir up the masses, then repeat it, then shout it, then scream it out loud, then scream and shout it while jumping up and down, then watch while other people repeat it, scream it, shout it, then settle back and report it now as a fact, not because it is, but because the echo chamber resounded it out loud and it caught on with mainstream media, so now everyone is snowed and actually think it is a fact, and then the knuckleheads who make money spouting out this neo-conservative crap have another tool to place in their all purpose utility belt...much like Batman and all his batarangs. (NOTE: In one long sentence, I just described Fox WASP (We Always Scare People) News.)

But, as everyone knows, the truth is what matters. All that verbal fecal matter is disregarded and pales in comparison.

  3. "Does the reporter believe the Obama administration can do in less than two years what the Republicans couldn't do in more than seven years?" - John Dombek

The letter writer, John Dombek, wants us to give Obama as much time to correct a problem as the problem as existed.

    Huh?

  4. How much time does Obama need to figure this out? IT'S THE JOBS, STUPID!

Obama has done nothing to fix the American job picture that has not been mainly for union members or government employees (who are mainly union now.)

At the very beginning of his term he came right out and said that we don't want or need the jobs that have been offshored.

Can we really afford to let him continue to have his rubber stamp Congress this November?

  5. As an agnostic, I don't believe in "love thy neighbor". Instead, I treat them with respect and keep my dogs and shotgun ready.

  6. "Don't be impatient" the writer pleads.

Tell that to the 15 percent unemployed and the other 10 percent underemployed.

  7. El_Lobo,

    WWJD? Puke.

  8. El_Lobo,

If you're going to nail xtra on the guns and dogs, you should at least realize he was quoting me.

And when was it universally accepted that Calvin was right?

  9. El_Lobo,

I know that xtra agreed with me, I just think it was a cheap shot to accuse him of being a hypocrite for doing so. After all, even Christians will exhibit common sense once in a while. :)
