- Marnell breaks ground on McCarran cargo center (11-9-2009)
A new air cargo center at McCarran International Airport is on track to open in early October, Marnell Properties announced Thursday.
The cargo center is a 200,928-square-foot facility on 19 acres near the new Terminal 3 that will handle freight and mailing operations at the airport.
Work on the $29 million facility began in November 2009.
FedEx, UPS and Southwest Airlines are some of the tenants expected to use the facility, which will have two separate buildings, the company said.
“This new facility offers a level of customization that in itself is quite unique,” David Simard, senior vice president of Marnell Properties, said in a press release. “The air cargo industry is one of high-technology – different tenants need very specific layouts, custom floors and a variety of other components to get the maximum efficiency from their space. We’re tailoring each suite to fill those needs.”
Marnell has been working with the airport on expansions near the new terminal since 2005. The company has opened parts of an office complex on 14 acres off Russell Road and the company built the McCarran Marketplace, a 75-acre retail complex on Eastern Avenue with a Walmart, Lowe’s, PetSmart and Office Depot.
