Cooler weather moves into Las Vegas

Temperatures to reach high of 86 degrees today

Break out the sweaters. Las Vegas cools off today, with temperatures running from the upper 60s in the morning to the upper 80s in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Today will be the coolest day of the week, with high temperatures in the valley running 5 to 10 degrees below normal, the weather service said. Skies will be sunny and winds will before the the southwest, gusting up to 20 mph, forecasters said.

An area of low pressure moving across the Great Basin will result in breezy conditions today, especially over Mohave County in Arizona, with a slight chance of showers across central Nye and northern Lincoln counties, forecasters said.

Friday morning could bring the coolest low temperatures so far this season, dipping into the mid 60s, forecasters said.

At 3:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 68 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 71 degrees. The record low was 50 degrees, set in 1941.

Around the valley just before 4 a.m., temperatures were 68 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 70 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 66 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 77 degrees by 9 a.m., to 83 degrees by noon and reach a high of 86 degrees by 2 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 96 degrees and the record high was 108 degrees, set in 1944.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 85 degrees by 6 p.m., to 78 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 74 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Friday's morning low will be 66 degrees and Friday's high will climb to 90 degrees, they said.
