Garage fire
Las Vegas Fire and Rescue crews responded to a fire this morning after reports of a possible explosion at a home near Torrey Pines Drive and Jones Boulevard in the western valley, officials said.
Fire department spokesman Tim Szymanski said crews arrived shortly after 11:30 a.m. at 6224 Lawton Ave. to find heavy smoke coming from the house. The fire turned out to be in an attached garage, he said.
A cat was rescued, but no one was home at the time, he said. No injuries were reported.
The fire gutted the garage, and the home's interior sustained heat and smoke damage, Szymanski said.
As crews were cleaning up after the blaze, the residents of the home arrived, he said.
Fire officials are investigating the cause of the blaze, but Szymanski said they found highly flammable materials in the garage that appear to be used to make model airplanes.
Investigators haven't determined a damage estimate, officials said.
