Family reports fire weeks after moving into house

Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010 | 10:03 p.m.

A family that recently moved into a house reported a fire Wednesday after noticing the wall bubbling up around an electrical outlet, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue officials said.

None of the occupants — two adults and two children — were injured.

The fire, which did an estimated $35,000 damage, was reported about 3 p.m. at a house in the 7100 block of Trading Post Lane, near Tenaya Way and Summerlin Parkway.

An occupant had smelled smoke earlier in the day but thought it was coming from outside, fire officials said. Later, the family noticed the wall start to bubble around a kitchen outlet, and light smoke started to fill the house, officials said.

Fire investigators believe the fire was caused by an electrical short in the wall that went undetected for a length of time. The family moved into the house a few weeks ago and had an extensive inspection done prior to moving in, officials said.

The fire was not preventable, officials said.
