LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
Apply cooling-off period to legislators
Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010 | 2:05 a.m.
Regarding the story in Thursday’s Las Vegas Sun, “From Assembly chamber to lobby”:
Does the court system in Clark County need a lobbyist in Carson City? At least some people in high positions think so; they are proposing a contract with Morse Arberry, a member of the Nevada Legislature who is retiring after 25 years.
The cost of having such a lobbyist, which would run as much as $10,000 in some months, would come from fees tacked to court fines from people who go through the court system.
This brings up whether retiring legislators should be allowed to immediately become lobbyists without a specified waiting period.
I say that state legislators should never be allowed to immediately become lobbyists. And if the court system in Clark County needs a lobbyist, then Nevada taxpayers also need a lobbyist to protect us from politicians.

5 years is about right. Public open bid should be required the same as any other public contract.
Why does one tax supported agency hire lobbyist to influence elected officials to spend more tax dollars to begin with. No public agency should have a lobbyist. This is the ultimate in working against the people instead of for them.
Public officials and ALL elected officials should be banned for 20 years minimum from being allowed to become a lobbyist ..... This goes to the heart of corruption in politics.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Even an idiot supports a cooling off period, just as many corporations make staff who resign agree to a non-compete contract usually of one year - you fools and idiots who disagree are simply stupid
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Of course, reading some of the posts herein it is quite obvious there are a lot of idiots and stupids about
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Have a goot one
Why don't we just get to the heart of the problem and just ban lobbyists.Why do we allow people to have overequal access just because they pay for it .What the hell are they paying their advisors for,to acertain what lobbiest had the best advertisment campaign!
Democrats are going to lose their control in November. Reid will finally become a lobbyist. I look for him to also eventually be the Chairman of the Democrat Party. Howard Dean will relinquish the job. Then Dean will report to the insane asylum to resume his duties there.
I guess I forgot that Dean had been relieved. I'm sorry that it happened as I really liked disliking that phart phace.
These stupid, ignorant, greedy republicans still
don't get it.
YOUR PARTY IS BROKEN.
Your new leaders are crazy Beck and Palin.
YOU'RE DONE.
Democrats keep the House and Senate in November.
Harry Reid will win.
