The officer can thank the superb job the Clark County Dept of Public Works does. Not! Ever see the mess the CCDPW leaves after it does road work? They ought to be ashamed of themselves, but shame is a word not in their vocabulary! It's just one more inefficient department staffed with inept, unelected & unaccountable bureaucrats soaking up our tax $.
It was the median's fault....it made a furtive move...
About 6 weeks ago while driving on the 215 heading South I noticed a motorcycle cop attempting to position his bike facing the Southbound traffic from the bottom of the southbound on ramp and fell over while doing about 3mph. I have to wonder if this is the same guy...
Surprised he didn't shoot it.
3 of the 4 of you have made the most asinine comments of the day. None of you know exactly what happened yet you ASSume. You know where that gets you. lvfacts, What does Public Works have to do with the median? They put it there but because the officer hit it then it is their fault?
Summerlin, ignorance.
rcknrllfreak, really? Worst trained officers because this happened? How does that connect?
And sevenhills, do you miss the penitentiary? Your comments are always so far out in left field it is ridiculous.
vegas - always. yes. On temporary leave currently, thanks for asking.
I ride a bike, and there are times when hitting a median seems a lot safer than what is happening to the right of me. Fortunately, I have not had to go so far as actually hitting the median, but it has looked like an option to me at times. Now, I am not saying that something was going on next to him, just that it can and does happen!
@MG As to the comment about a cop laying a bike down at 3mph. You ever try to turn a Harley, fully equipped like his, at 3mph? The only time I have laid my bike down is at about that speed, trying to turn out of a driveway. And I ride a Sportster that doesn't have near the girth as those Harley's the cops ride! I admit, I was not giving the turn my utmost attention, but this officer may have been trying to get this turn done quick before traffic got congested??? Sheez, did you even stop to see if he was okay or needed a hand lifting that ginormous bike?
Just an FYI, motorcycle police are the most experienced motorcycle riders in the country.
The tests and riding classes they have to take are the toughest out there. Those guys know how to ride, anybody that knows anything about motorcycles will tell you this. Not sure what happened here, sounds like he just didn't see it.
And the reason he might not have seen the median is because it's unpainted...which would lead back to lvfacts101 comment about the Department of Public Works--do you see that, vegasguy80? Perhaps if the median was painted yellow or red, the officer might have seen it and avoided it. And if the median's lack of color weren't an issue, the fact that it is unpainted would not have been mentioned in the story.
To: Brent_Mydland--I agree with you about motorcycle police being the most experienced riders. One only has to spend some time at the police motorcycle competition to see the skill level and expertise of these officers. It's amazing.
I know there has to be a reason for the question I am about to ask so please if anyone please answer. Why do the police departments have to buy Harley Davidson motor cycles are they not the most expensive and require more maintenance?
The reason for asking is that my father and a lot of his friends have told me that they require a lot of maintenance be cause they vibrate too much that it is constantly coming apart and leaks oil on account of that. Just asking not trying to start a verbal war.
Harley-Davidson makes a specific model just for the police. It has all the brackets and set-up for all of the police accessories. Not all motorcycle companies make specific police models.
BMW does (North Las Vegas police use a few of these, I think), also Kawasaki used to make a police model, not sure if they do anymore.
Harleys are a little more reliable these days as well. I say a little, believe me, I know.
To casinokid, tell your father and his friends to get their head out of their butts. The new model Harleys doesn't vibrate any more than any other bike. Thirty (30) years ago I might have agreed with this stupidity. I've ridden bikes off and on since 1969. I started with a Honda, other that my Ninja 900, a Harley is the best thing since sliced bread. It's an American thing sonny boy., your fat head father and his friends wouldn't understand even if I wanted to explain to them or you. Now go to your room and don't make me mad.
@casinokid, it depends what years you're dad was talking about. Old Harley's that were built in the 70's and 80's had a reputation for leaking oil and vibration. Most of those problems were fixed by the 90's and the new Harley's are much better. But yes, they're still very expensive.
an american police agency should invest in american companies. just my thoughts. that would be like the US govt buying hondas insted of GM vehicles for a majority of their fleet.
i dont know why they open an intersection without making everything more visible. thats just dumb but hey we are in nevada. other than that, i find some of the comments funny!!
if this was the moto cop that handled my car accident, too bad he didnt get hurt more like a broken hip or back. if its not that cop, sorry to read about this. at least the cops not blaming some random dude for the accident while he was speeding at 100 mph! lol
first, as a bike rider myself... if you can not control the equipment your operating, you should not ride it. Simple solution to preventing an accident of letting your bike fall over is put your feet down... and I would not help the cop lift his bike on two reasons if you cant lift it dont drive it and second I dont want to be mistaken for making a FURTIVE movement towards a cop and get shot for helping him out.
To apply Metro logic, no one here can complain about the job Public Works is doing unless they work for CCDPW. Remember, they have the tough decisions to make and without them, well that cop would have been riding over unpaved desert. So if a few people crash into medians, or other hazards, well
its all part of the sacrifice we make to live in a paved world. Stop hating on CCDPW workers.
