Construction complete; Decatur-Warm Springs intersection now open

Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 | 9:44 a.m.

Improved intersection

Residents of the southwest valley have better access to the Las Vegas Beltway and new north-south and east-west arterials to connect them to the rest of the valley.

The new connections all come from the completion of one intersection, at Decatur Boulevard and Warm Springs Road, which opened earlier this week.

The intersection previously only connected the southern part of Decatur to the eastern part of Warm Springs because of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks on the west.

Motorists are now able to go all four directions at the intersection, giving residents easier access to the Beltway via Decatur and to Blue Diamond Road via Warm Springs.

The project included a bridge for each road over the railroad tracks, widened Decatur to six lanes, and added a traffic signal where the two roads meet.

The $46 million project took about two years to complete.

“This project was a major undertaking and many commuters were counting on its completion to make their daily commute a little easier,” said county Public Works Director Denis Cederburg. “We are proud to be part of something that brought jobs that boosted the local economy and will now alleviate some of the frustration commuters had when trying to access the 215 Beltway from those roads.”
