2010 Labor Day Weekend events guide

Labor Day Weekend signals the close of the summer with one more blowout bash, a last hurrah. Oh, who are we kidding? This is Vegas, baby. We go all year! Still, LDW is a great excuse for a nearly weeklong party. There will be celeb hosts and DJs galore, plus a plethora of comedians and concerts. In one weekend you can catch Chelsea Handler, Ronnie from "Jersey Shore," Melissa Etheridge, LMFAO and Diddy. Here's a guide to the weekend's events so you can make your plan of attack.

Wednesday, September 1:

Max Brenner book signing: Max Brenner, Chocolate by the Bald Man, the first restaurant entirely devoted to chocolate, recently opened a chocolate emporium at The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace. Max will be visiting the store for a signing of his book Chocolate: A Love Story. Catch him again on Sunday afternoon from 1 until 2 p.m.

M&M's World chocolate unveiling: M&M's World unveils a "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign made out of more than 50,000 M&M's Chocolate Candies. The unveiling will highlight the newly-launched My M&M's experience, which allows guests to print custom messages and popular Las Vegas icons on the tasty treats.

Days of the New at Hard Rock Café: Hard Rock Café on the Strip presents Days of the New with local band Leaving Springfield. Check out Leaving Springfield in Las Vegas Weekly's Local Band Guide.

Open House at Revolution: Revolution introduces its new weekly house night "Open House" with resident DJ Que plus local headliners every week.

Banana Republic party at Lavo: Label Junkie fashion night presents a party celebrating the one-year anniversary of the Banana Republic store in Fashion Show Mall.

Miguel at Eve: The hip-hop artist kicks off Labor Day Weekend at Even Nightclub. Get an early taste of Miguel's debut single, "All I Want is You," featuring J. Cole, slated for a fall release.

Chris Lake

Chris Lake at Vanity: Godskitchen at Vanity presents English house music DJ and producer Chris Lake. Get there early to enjoy an open bar from 10:30 until 11:30.

Avett Brothers at The Silverton: The North Carolina folk rockers will kick off Labor Day Weekend with a concert at The Silverton.

Adler's Appetite at Wasted Space: Steven Adler and his band perform at Wasted Space, along with Anchored.

Summer School Study Session at McFadden's: McFadden's at the Rio presents a party where local and college ladies drink free from 10-11 p.m. and can get $1 drinks afterward until close. This also will be the start of a three-day beer-pong tournament.

Friday, September 3:

Labor Day Weekend at Cabo Wabo: Cabo Wabo will kicks off Labor Day weekend with a big musical bang. On Friday and Saturday nights, guests will experience the ultimate rock-inspired piano battle with an interactive, request-driven piano competition. Nurse your hangover Sunday with the Mariachi Brunch and round out the long weekend Monday with $1 domestic drafts from 9 p.m. until midnight.

Beer Pong-A-Palooza at Rock & Rita's: Rock & Rita's presents the "Great American Party" this Labor Day weekend. From September 3 through 5, test your skills at "Beer Pong-A-Palooza." Things will kick off nightly at 10 p.m. and a $30 buy-in will get you unlimited draft beer until 2 a.m.

Aegis at the Palms: This Filipino pop rock act touts gold and platinum album sales and has found a way to strike a balance between the sentiments of sympathy and empathy.

Bikini Beach at The Rio Pool: The Rio Pool presents DJ Icy Ice on Friday, DJ Scotty Boy on Saturday, DJ LezLEE Girls Party on Sunday and DJ Michael Toast on Monday.

Grand Opening of the PBR Rock Bar: The Miracle Mile Shops welcome the newest addition to nightlife on the Strip as PBR Rock Bar opens its doors. That's Professional Bull Riding, not Pabst Blue Ribbon, though there is sure to be plenty of that on hand. Ladies drink free on Labor Day from 10:30 p.m. until 12 a.m.

Lauren "Lo" Bosworth at Lavo: The Hills star celebrates the launch of lifestyle website www.TheLodown.com at Lavo.

Asia at Green Valley Ranch: Asia, the '80s rock supergroup, is back in action and performing at Green Valley Ranch's Ovation on the Omega Tour. Look forward to songs like "Heat of the Moment", "Don't Cry" and "The Smile Has Left Your Eyes."

David Gray & Ray LaMontagne at The Pearl at The Palms: Catch English singer-songwriter Gray, known for hits like "This Year's Love" and "Babylon."

ArtBeat with Gary Morris: Known for hits like "Baby Bye Bye" and "Wind Beneath My Wings" Morris headlines this event at the Henderson Events Plaza. Coolers are welcome, so pack a picnic and bring the family.

Craig Shoemaker at the South Point: The comedian takes over the showroom. Known for films such as Scream 2 and Dark Honeymoon, Shoemaker also has been featured on a Comedy Central special.

Imagine Dragons at The Pub: The local indie-pop favorites perform at Monte Carlo. Check out Imagine Dragons in our Local Band Guide.

Jeff Dunham at The Colosseum: Caesars Palace welcomes back the global comedy phenomenon. Ranked the top-grossing live comedy act in the world for 2009 and in North America for two years in a row, the ventriloquist is featured with his newest character, Diane, in the new Jay Roach movie Dinner For Shmucks, starring Steve Carell and Paul Rudd.

Ozomatli at the Hard Rock Pool: The end of the work week means it's time to hit the pool at the Hard Rock for Friday Night Live. Goove to this group's Spanish/English mash-ups that seem to almost defy categorization.

Ron White at the Mirage: Best known as the cigar-smoking, scotch-drinking funnyman from the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, White will perform his hilarious stand-up comedy inside the Terry Fator Theatre.

Air Supply at The Orleans Showroom: Hear all the Australian duo's hits, such as "Lost in Love" and "All Out of Love."

Steve Angello at Surrender: The Greek-Swedish DJ, producer and one-third of the group Swedish House Mafia performs at Surrender Nightclub.

Jersey Shore's Ronnie hosts at Jet: Love him or hate him, Jersey Shore's Ronnie will be hosting the night at Jet, sans his "Sweetheart" from the show, Sammi. Cali Swag District returns to perform their hit single "Teach Me How To Dougie."

Ari Golden hosts at LAX: Ari Golden from TheDirty.com hosts the evening at LAX. Be on your best behavior or your antics might end up on his gossip site.

Steve Aoki vs. Steve Angello at Surrender: Aoki, Surrender Nightclub's musical director and creator of the dance hit "I'm In the House," takes over the turntables for "Aoki's House" and challenges Angello to a DJ duel.

DJ Toma and DJ Reach at Tao Beach: The DJs will man the wheels of steel poolside to get the holiday weekend started at Tao Beach.

Ray J at Haze: Brandy's little brother and For the Love of Ray J star hosts the party at Haze Nightclub at Aria.

Bad Boy Bill and Boris at Wet Republic: Chicago-based house DJ Bad Boy Bill spins poolside at Wet Republic at MGM Grand along with Russian transplant Boris, who now resides and spins regularly in NYC and beyond.

Double Down Radio Anniversary: Double Down Radio celebrates its anniversary with a party at (where else?) the Double Down Saloon. Celebrate another year of broadcasts from the famous local dive bar.

DJ Twisted at Azure Pool: The London-born spins at the Palazzo.

Jefferson Starship at Fremont Street Experience: Downtown's Fremont Street Experience presents a free show to celebrate the "Summer of the '70s." Look forward to classic hits like "Miracles," "Sara" and "Somebody to Love," as they perform on Fremont's 1st Street Stage.

Leann Rimes at Tabu: The country singer celebrates her birthday at the MGM ultra lounge, while taking a break from recording her new album.

Jack Ingram at Santa Fe Station: Country music artist Jack Ingram performs hits like "Wherever You Are", "Lips of an Angel," "Measure of a Man," "Maybe She'll Get Lonely," and "Barefoot and Crazy."

McFadden's Summer School Study Break: The human jukeboxes, Acoustic Soul, perform live. Enjoy an open bar from 10 p.m. until midnight with a $10 wristband for ladies and $20 for men.

Tila Tequila at Hustler Club: Larry Flynt's club is opening its doors and the reality-TV star will be on hand for the festivities.

Kid Cudi at Pure and Venus Pool: The Grammy-nominated rapper performs at Caesars Palace during the day and again at night. The Brooklyn-based artist is enjoying huge success from his debut single, "Day 'n' Nite" off his debut album Man on the Moon: The End of Day.

DJ Homicide at Jet: DJ Homicide, who spins solo and along with the rock group Sugar Ray, spins at Mirage.

Scooter and Lavelle at Liquid: The San Diego duo will be spinning house and electronica poolside.

Diddy at Wet Republic: Diddy hosts the day poolside at MGM Grand while Serge Devant and Funkagenda spin.

Deadones U.S.A. at Double Down: The Washington-state punk band performs at the Double Down Saloon along with Bobot Adrenaline, Primasonic and Common War.

Voodoo Glow Skulls at Beauty Bar: The Riverside, Calif., punk and ska band has been together nearly 30 years and still is cranking out hits.

Claudius Raphael at Azure Pool: DJ Claudius Raphael will be spinning live at Palazzo throughout the weekend.

LMFAO at Tao and Tao Beach: The party-loving duo will be able to honestly say, "I'm in Las Vegas B****" over Labor Day Weekend. They'll party poolside at Tao Beach during the day at Tao Nightclub at night.

Beer-pong tournament finale at McFadden's: Enjoy an open bar from 8 until 10 p.m. with a $10 cover for both men and women. A second open bar runs from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. with a $10 wristband for women ($20 for men).

TheDirty.com crew at Venus Pool: The Dirty.com crew — Nik Richie, Ari Golden and Shayne Lamas — hosts.

Shayne Lamas and Nik Richie host at Coyote Ugly: Shayne Lamas and Nik Richie of TheDirty.com host at Coyote Ugly. If things literally get ugly, you can bet it'll be front and center on Nik's gossip site the next day.

Craig Smooth at the Pool at the Palms: Dainjazone, E-Rock and DJ MCB also each will take a turn behind the wheels of steel.

Abbey Beach at Vdara Pool: The popular West Hollywood hot spot The Abbey Food & Bar has partnered with local party planner Eduardo Cordova and Vdara Hotel & Spa to host Abbey Beach, a high-end LGBT party in the heart of CityCenter.

Glamorous Pool Party at The Palms Pool: BT, Gareth Emery, The Crystal Method, DJ Reza, Scotty Boy and Jordan Stevens will DJ at The Palms Pool and Bungalows.

Glamorous Las Vegas at Rain: The nightclub presents Benny Benassi and DJ Uppercut, Eddie Halliwell and John O'Callaghan inside, and Donald Glaude and Turner & Heit outside.

Rehab Model Search finals: As the end of the pool season approaches, the Hard Rock pool is wrapping up its contest. Check out the finals this Sunday.

Krave's Wet 'n' Wild Pool Party: The nightclub hosts a Wet 'n' Wild Pool Party at the Mandalay Bay Pool. This will be the perfect pre-party for the foam party later that evening.

Foam Party at Krave: Less is more at Krave Nightclub because it's just going to get covered in foam. Guests are encouraged to wear bathing suits or underwear. There will be a coat check for clothing.

Blow Your Wad at Jet: The title of this event says it all. Every table gets "Blow Your Wad" bucks and it's time to make it rain.

Barbecue and pig roast at Sunset & Vines: If burgers and hotdogs are too passé for you, Lake Las Vegas will host a barbecue and pig roast at Sunset & Vines. Come get your pork fix, but remember, reservations are necessary.

Starkillers at Bare Pool: The pool celebrates Labor Day with Starkillers spinning live poolside.
