CARSON CITY – Lynn Hettrick, the deputy chief of staff for Gov. Jim Gibbons, is taking a new job.

Hettrick has been named executive director of the state Dairy Commission, which regulates the state's 20 dairy farms, two milk plants and three frozen dessert plants.

Gibbons and his staff looked at possibly eliminating the dairy commission, but Hettrick said there must be regulation or farmers couldn't ship their milk outside Nevada.

Besides the industry regulation, Hettrick, 66, says it will work to promote the dairy business in Nevada. “We don’t want to lose it.”

Hettrick represented Douglas County for seven terms in the Assembly and was co-speaker with Democrat Joe Dini, of Yerington, in 1995 when the 42-member House was evenly divided.

Hettrick begins work Monday in his new job in the commission, which has 14 employees.
