Saturday Night Live spoofs Obama-Reid rally

It really hasn’t been too much of a stretch to call Nevada’s Senate race the most-watched midterm election in the nation, but now there’s independent confirmation from a nationally-recognized assessor: Saturday Night Live.

SNL featured Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s Las Vegas Rally with President Barack Obama as its opening spoof sketch Saturday night — with a little twist.

After “Obama” (played by Fred Armisen) introduced “Reid” (played by Paul Brittain), Reid warned the president he planned to distance himself during his remarks, as “neither of us is that popular.”

After expressing surprise — “I thought I was” — fake Obama agreed to back up fake Harry.

The two stressed repeatedly to the audience how much they were “not friends” and how little they planned to work together.

“I’ll just pretend to support the president, to get something for this state, and at the last minute, I’ll double-cross him if that’s what’s best for Nevada,” Reid said.

“Thank you Harry Reid, a fair-weather friend,” Obama joyfully replied.

“I wouldn’t call us friends,” Reid corrected him.

Obama: “Right.”
